sy%20of%20the%20adrenal%20gland%20for%20laboratory%20analysis.%20It%20is%20common%20for%20cats%20with%20a%20pheochromocytoma%20to%20have%20more%20than%20one%20medical%20problem,%20and%20treatment%20will%20be%20approached%20according%20to%20which%20condition%20is%20most%20critical.%20Treatment%20Surgery%20is%20the%20chosen%20treatment%20for%20a%20pheochromocytoma.%20If%20your%20cat%20has%20high%20blood%20pressure%20or%20a%20very%20high%20heart%20rate,%20these%20conditions%20will%20be%20treated%20with%20medication%20and%20stabilized%20before%20surgery%20can%20be%20performed.%20If%20the%20blood%20pressure%20or%20heart%20rate%20are%20dangerously%20high,%20your%20cat%20may%20need%20to%20be%20in%20intensive%20care%20before%20surgery%20can%20be%20performed.%20Some%20cats%20need%20to%20be%20placed%20on%20medication%20to%20control%20blood%20pressure%20and%20heart%20rate%20for%20several%20weeks%20before%20surgery%20can%20be%20performed.%20During%20surgery,%20the%20affected%20adrenal%20gland%20will%20be%20removed.%20Because%20the%20adrenal%20gland%20is%20near%20some%20very%20large%20blood%20vessels,%20surgery%20can%20be%20challenging.%20If,%20during%20surgery,%20it%20is%20found%20that%20other%20organs%20are%20being%20affected%20by%20the%20tumor,%20they%20will%20need%20to%20be%20removed%20as%20well,%20either%20in%20part%20or%20in%20their%20entirety,%20depending%20on%20the%20organ.%20After%20surgery,%20your%20cat%20will%20be%20kept%20in%20the%20hospital%20intensive%20care%20unit%20until%20it%20is%20stable.%20Problems%20during%20and%20after%20surgery%20are%20common.%20Your%20veterinarian%20will%20monitor%20for%20bleeding,%20high%20or%20low%20blood%20pressure,%20abnormal%20heart%20rhythm,%20difficulty%20breathing,%20or%20post-operative%20infections.%20Unfortunately,%20some%20cats%20do%20not%20make%20it%20through%20recovery%20because%20of%20these%20problems,%20especially%20if%20they%20have%20other%20medical%20problems.%20Your%20veterinarian%20will%20help%20you%20to%20decide%20the%20best%20course%20of%20action%20based%20on%20the%20diagnosis%20and%20expectations%20for%20recovery.%20Living%20and%20Management%20Once%20your%20cat's%20tumor%20has%20been%20removed%20and%20it%20is%20able%20to%20return%20home%20with%20you,%20it%20will%20take%20a%20little%20time%20for%20your%20cat%20to%20return%20to%20a%20normal%20life%20with%20normal%20activity.%20Your%20cat's%20life%20expectancy%20will%20be%20based%20on%20whether%20there%20are%20other%20health%20conditions%20concurrent%20with%20the%20pheochromocytoma.%20Some%20cats%20will%20continue%20to%20live%20for%20three%20or%20more%20years,%20while%20others%20have%20shorter%20expectancies.%22%7D){kind=logo}
