e%20urinalysis%20may%20show%20renal%20disease.%20A%20clotting%20profile%20should%20also%20be%20performed%20on%20a%20blood%20sample%20to%20check%20the%20liver%5Cu2019s%20functionality.%20X-ray%20and%20ultrasound%20imaging%20may%20also%20reveal%20abnormalities%20in%20organs%20where%20amyloid%20might%20be%20collecting.%20If%20necessary,%20a%20minor%20surgery%20can%20also%20be%20performed%20to%20collect%20a%20sample%20for%20biopsy%20of%20the%20liver%20and%5C/or%20other%20organs.%20Dogs%20with%20swelling%20in%20the%20joints%20should%20have%20joint%20taps%20taken.%20Cytology%20%5Cu2013%20a%20microscopic%20examination%20of%20the%20cells%20present%20in%20the%20fluid%20-%20of%20these%20samples%20can%20be%20performed%20to%20confirm%20or%20rule%20out%20the%20presence%20of%20malignancies%20in%20the%20cells.%20The%20composition%20of%20any%20fluid%20that%20has%20built%20up%20in%20the%20abdomen%20can%20also%20be%20analyzed%20at%20the%20laboratory.%20Treatment%20There%20is%20no%20cure%20for%20amyloidosis,%20but%20supportive%20care%20is%20very%20helpful.%20Blood%20transfusions%20should%20be%20administered%20if%20your%20dog%20has%20recently%20lost%20a%20lot%20of%20blood,%20and%20fluid%20therapy%20and%20possible%20diet%20changes%20will%20need%20to%20be%20undertaken.%20Each%20patient%20should%20have%20its%20diet%20tailored%20to%20suit%20the%20organ%20function%20that%20is%20being%20affected%20most.%20Surgery%20intervention%20may%20be%20necessary%20if%20there%20is%20a%20fractured%20liver%20lobe,.%20Living%20and%20Management%20This%20syndrome%20is%20difficult%20to%20treat%20and%20has%20a%20guarded%20to%20poor%20prognosis.%20Most%20animals%20will%20have%20episodes%20of%20fever%20and%20cholestasis,%20where%20bile%20cannot%20flow%20from%20the%20liver%20to%20the%20duodenum%20(small%20intestine).%20Some%20dogs%20will%20benefit%20from%20medication,%20with%20resolved%20clinical%20signs%20and%20diminished%20hepatic%20amyloid.%20Shar-peis%20may%20survive%20more%20than%20two%20years.%20However,%20Akitas%20with%20cyclic%20clinical%20signs%20have%20a%20grave%20prognosis.%20Your%20veterinarian%20will%20schedule%20follow-up%20appointments%20with%20you%20for%20your%20dog%20as%20is%20necessary%20to%20monitor%20its%20organ%20function.%20Your%20veterinarian%20will%20schedule%20follow-up%20appointments%20with%20you%20for%20your%20dog%20as%20is%20necessary%20to%20monitor%20its%20organ%20function.%22%7D){kind=spacer}
